freier (n., Israeli slang): someone who pays when they didn't have to.
Don't bea freier.
You worked abroad. Israel may owe you money. If you made aliyah in the last ten years, salary for the days you worked abroad may be exempt from Israeli income tax. You can miss it entirely, or pay someone a share of the refund to claim it. We think there should be a third option.
Does this sound like you?
- Aliyah
- You made aliyah as a new immigrant within the last ten years or so.
- Salary
- You're paid a salary in Israel and get a Form 106 each year.
- Trips
- You've travelled abroad for work and still paid full Israeli tax on those days.
That doesn't prove you qualify. It means it's worth checking.
How the claim works, roughly
- Count the days you worked abroad.
- Work out what share of your salary those days represent.
- Report that share as exempt on your annual return.
Keep your refund.
